Open Analytics DC Meetup - Startup Pitches

Jul 24, 2013

We recently hosted a meetup at 1776 in Washington, DC that featured local startups and VC’s. The 5 startups gave their pitch and the VC’s then provided feedback. Ikanow was one of the startups and Andrew Strite, an Intelligence Solutions Architect at Ikanow, gave a fantastic presentation that covered:

  • The current data and analytical problems organizations face today
  • How Ikanow can solve them
  • And, why organizations choose Ikanow

Other startups that presented were:

  • TheCapRate which helps determine commercial property worth
  • Venga which has developed a guest management platform for restaurants
  • Verifeed a social media analytics startup that helps make sense of social conversations
  • HDScores which is helping democratize health department inspection data

Bobby Ocampo with Revolution was kind enough to provide some feedback about this event. He wrote “I thought the event was nicely done, good mix of startups, panel discussion, etc. I thought the startups presenting varied wildly by sector, stage, progress, etc., which made for some interesting questioning and it was clear to me which startups were more mature/have been around longer. I think the term “open analytics” was pretty broad, but overall I understood the data play for each company. It would be great, as a next step, to see how companies can go from analysis to prediction, where you could one day eliminate the human being making the decision, and use the data set to automate the decision making. I think one day we’ll get here, but might take awhile.” (updated 8/14/13)
