Mapping Crime Data with the Open Source Infinit.e Tool
Mapping crime data is made easy by using Infinit.e, the open source analytics platform, to facilitate the analysis of structured and unstructured data. Such data can come from social media, news feeds, blog, chat, traditional relational databases, and file systems.
Mapping crime data is very valuable for Intelligence Communities. It is utilized to help map, visualize, and analyze crime incident patterns and allows for the reduction of crime through a more informed awareness of its surrounding areas. In addition, law enforcement management are able to formulate strategic plans in crime prevention, target resources, and gain a better understanding as to why certain patterns occur.
This demonstration focuses on creating a community of sources from blog and news feeds covering DC crime combined with more structured crime reports from DC.gov. Infinit.e converts these documents into a single unified, semi-structured data environment which is highly customizable as well as very easy to navigate and understand.
